A message from Heather Cassity, Executive Director of The Light House
Dear Light House Community,
After many incredibly rewarding years here at The Light House, I have recently announced my plans to step down from my role as Executive Director in February 2024.
I am grateful to have spent the last seven years working alongside our dedicated staff, volunteers, supporters, and community partners. I am proud of the successes we have accomplished together and honored to have been a part of this amazing team. The Light House has a strong foundation built on over 30 years of neighbors helping neighbors. This work is vital to our community, and I am confident that The Light House will continue to provide a place of belonging and hope for many years to come.
With sincerest gratitude,
Heather Cassity,
Executive Director, The Light House
A message from The Light House Board of Directors
The Board of Directors of The Light House hopes you will join us in expressing our appreciation for our outgoing Executive Director, Heather Cassity, for her dedication to The Light House over the last seven years.
We are grateful for the leadership and creativity she has demonstrated, first as Deputy Director and then as Executive Director, to address the diverse needs of this multifaceted organization. Her tireless advocacy for our vulnerable neighbors highlighted the impact of the pandemic and the local housing shortage on the unhoused and at-risk in our region, and was paramount to ensuring that our clients could remain safe and stable during the pandemic. We wish Heather the best of luck in her next chapter as she moves on to start her own nonprofit consulting company.
The Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Jenny Crawford as the Interim Executive Director of The Light House. Since 2017, Jenny has been a senior staff member of The Light House, serving as the Director of Development and Communications, with broad involvement and expertise in numerous areas of the organization. She looks forward to building on the established legacy of The Light House as a national model of community caring for its vulnerable neighbors.
A graduate of the College of William & Mary, Jenny has 16 years of nonprofit fundraising and program planning experience, having held positions at Anne Arundel Community College, George Washington University, and the Thurgood Marshall Academy Public Charter High School in Washington, DC. Her experience working for the law firm of Morgan, Lewis & Bockius first introduced her to the importance of community impact, after regularly volunteering with the firm to support Martha’s Table, Back on My Feet, and other Washington-region nonprofits. The Light House Board has great confidence in Jenny and the entire staff as we make this transition.
If you have any questions during this transition process, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.
Sincerely,
The Light House Board of Directors
