The Light House in Annapolis was recently awarded a $20,000 grant from the Bank of America Charitable Foundation.

This grant award directly funds The Light House’s many homelessness prevention and support programs which provide vulnerable community members with housing, food, case management, and other basic need services.

“Over 100 community members in need walk through our doors seeking services daily, and we work to meet each individual and family where they are in that moment,” stated Interim Executive Director, Jenny Crawford. “Right now, The Light House is at a critical juncture in our organizational history. We are continuing to serve a record number of individuals and families, all while a range of outside pressures have caused our operating budget to increase. We are serving new populations with unique needs such as seniors, memory care patients, and the working poor. These new clients have necessitated the design and delivery of a greater breadth of programs and services. We are also experiencing further strain on our budget due to inflation and the trend of charitable giving and in-kind donations decreasing nationwide. This much needed funding from the Bank of America Charitable Foundation and their partnership over many years is vital to our ability to provide programs and services to our most vulnerable neighbors. We are deeply grateful to our friends at Bank of America for standing with us.”

For over 30 years, The Light House has been providing vital basic needs services for neighbors struggling with homelessness and poverty. Last year alone, The Light House provided shelter and transitional housing for 279 individuals including 34 children. In addition, their Safe Harbour Resource Center staff assisted over 397 individuals at risk of losing their housing and successfully prevented them from becoming homeless. The Light House also distributed over 200,000 pounds of healthy pantry items and provided over 80,000 meals to individuals and families struggling with homelessness and food insecurity. The generous funding from the Bank of America Charitable Foundation will enable The Light House to continue to serve as many vulnerable individuals and families as they possibly can.
