Volunteer

Volunteers are essential to The Light House. Every day, community members work alongside staff to provide nutrition, support, and practical assistance to neighbors experiencing homelessness.

We offer a range of hands-on roles that sustain daily operations. Openings vary based on program capacity; all lunch service and food pantry roles are on waitlist status through the end of the year.

Joining our volunteer team is a process, and it is worth it. All volunteers complete four steps: register in the portal, submit an application, attend an orientation, and pass a background check.

Major Volunteer Need: Adopt-a-Meal!

Adopt-a-Meal groups

The Light House relies on the support of volunteer groups to provide daily hot breakfasts and dinners to shelter residents. If your family, spiritual group, business or civic group would like to donate or cook and serve a meal, Email volunteers@annapolislighthouse.org to volunteer for a date. We will walk you through all of the next steps.

Individuals

After onboarding, adult volunteers serve in our food & clothes pantries, kitchen and meal services, and other on-site programs. Volunteers may also offer professional skills or enrichment activities for residents.

Students

Students serve neighbors in need through group Adopt-a-Meals, UNBagged Lunches, goods drives, and other structured projects (coordinating with the volunteer office). On-site opportunities are limited.

Groups

Groups support our residents through Adopt-a-Meal, donation drives, and offsite team building. On-site projects for groups are limited; inquiries should be submitted three months ahead of proposed date.

Holiday Volunteering Notice

Please note: We do not offer volunteer opportunities on Thanksgiving Day or Christmas Day. There are many other ways to support our community during the holidays. Consider participating in one of our holiday drives or visiting our Needs page to find other ways to help.
