Dear Light House Community,
As the government shutdown continues, thousands of Anne Arundel County residents are already feeling the effects.
Furloughed workers in our community are missing paychecks and may struggle to meet their basic needs. Local businesses are also facing financial strain, which can further impact household stability. If the shutdown continues, federal nutrition programs may soon be affected—putting even more pressure on the individuals and families we are working to stabilize.
When the federal government shuts down, nonprofits like The Light House also face serious financial challenges as key funding streams are paused or cut. At the same time, demand for our services continues to grow.
Just as we did during the uncertainty of the pandemic, we are taking proactive steps to adapt and continue meeting the urgent needs of our community. We remain committed to supporting our clients through this difficult period, even as we navigate disruptions to some of our most reliable sources of funding.
For over 35 years, The Light House has been a place of healing and hope for our most vulnerable neighbors. Despite the uncertainty we face, we will continue to honor this legacy and do all we can to ensure our neighbors experiencing homelessness and food insecurity receive the vital services they rely on.
But we can’t do it alone.
If you would like to support us during this time, please visit our Get Involved page to learn more about the many ways you can make an impact.
In the weeks ahead, we will keep our community informed and share opportunities to help as needs continue to evolve.
With gratitude,

David Alt
Executive Director
The Light House
