The Light House Receives Albertsons Companies Foundation Nourishing Neighbors Nutrition Security Grant
Light House Pantry volunteers serve over 100 pantry clients each week!
The Light House was recently awarded a $27,000 Albertsons Companies Foundation Nourishing Neighbors Nutrition Security Grant to help feed individuals and families facing food insecurity and hunger. As food insecurity continues to rise, this grant provides much needed support by connecting community members in need to the food programs at The Light House and to SNAP and WIC federal meals programs.
Hunger relief organizations like The Light House continue to be overloaded by a dramatic increase in demand for their services. Unfortunately, many people facing food insecurity are often not aware of existing federal nutrition programs and how to enroll or get the support they need. Through the Nourishing Neighbors Nutrition Security Grant Program, Albertsons Companies Foundation continues to focus on addressing hunger issues in local communities.
The Light House was chosen to receive this grant because of their commitment to serving food insecure neighbors through a variety of hunger relief programs, including freshly prepared meals in their community kitchen, perishable and non-perishable pantry items through their Client Choice Pantry program, and case management support that connects qualified individuals and families with existing federal meal programs.
Last year alone, The Light House served over 86,000 meals through their community kitchen and their Client Choice Pantry was visited by individuals and families in need over 2,000 times. Their many homelessness prevention and support programs also provided emergency shelter, clothing, case management, and other vital services to thousands of community members in need.
“We’re grateful to Albertsons Companies Foundation and their generous customers for their long-standing commitment to helping fight hunger in our community,” said Light House Interim Executive Director, Jenny Crawford. “This grant from the Nourishing Neighbors Program will help us ensure that our community members have the food they need to build a brighter future.”
